Our courses range from core skills to advanced vocational training with a wide range of subjects.

Our courses support learners to achieve a major award and prepare for employment.

Through a work placement programme, VTOS Limerick City has established links with the local business community and developed employment opportunities.

Award holders are qualified to work in a number of different industry roles such as Administration, Customer Service, Retail and Healthcare.  Further and higher education is possible on completion of some of the courses offered.

Retain your DEASP Payment while you are training you can avail of further supports such as meal allowance and childcare support.

Awards Evening 2018

The Annual Awards Ceremony for learners on the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme at Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s Kilmallock Road Campus took place last Friday night at the Absolute Hotel.  Over 200 adult learners celebrated their educational achievements, which included ECDL, Leaving Certificate and a range of QQI Awards. The event started with a look back at the achievements, creating, collaboration, diversity, exhibiting, exploring, partnerships, friendships and magic moments that made learning and skills on the VTOS programme a special place and such a success last year. Certificates were presented by Councillor Vivienne Crowley, Deputy Mayor, assisted by Triona Lynch, Further Education and Training Manager with Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board. It was a truly wonderful occasion with adult learners from many different cultures united in the proud celebration of their achievements.

VTOS gives unemployed adults the opportunity to return to full time education without losing social protection payments.

We offer QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland), and Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate accreditation that is recognised by employers and colleges in Ireland and beyond.

Our learners progress onto work or go onto college or third level.

Pathways to Success

Not sure where to start on your learning journey?

Why not explore some of the Pathways on the VTOS Programme where you can acquire new skills and set you on a pathway to a new career.

  • Pathway to Animal Welfare
  • Pathway to Crafts
  • Pathway to Sport & Fitness
  • Pathway to Office Administration
  • Pathway to Healthcare
  • Pathway to Construction

Each pathway includes related modules (subjects) along with individualised career guidance, CV development and help with interview techniques are also provided.

  • Education: These Level 3 programmes are all targeted at adults and young adults who may
    1. Be progressing from Level 2 programmes, have few or no previous qualifications
    2. Want to develop the skills and capacity to progress further in education and training
    3. Have qualifications at this level but need to re-enter education to re-establish confidence and
    4. Consolidate core skills
    5. It is expected that learners will come from a wide variety of social and cultural backgrounds and with a range of learning needs.

  • Aptitude: Ideally learners will have at least NFQ Level 2 qualifications.
    Where this is not the case pre-entry assessment will be offered to learners enrolling on a full time programme. It is expected that in order to participate successfully. Learners will need to be able to demonstrate

    1. Adequate reading, writing and numeracy skills
    2. Ability to participate in group work
    3. Some autonomy when it comes to performing simple work/learning related tasks
    4. In relation to some of the standalone IT courses it may be advantageous for learners to have basic
    5. Internet and email skills and/or basic keyboard or word processing skills

  • Previous Experience: Ideally learners will have at least NFQ Level 2 qualifications.
    Where this is not the case pre-entry assessment will be offered to learners enrolling on a full time programme.

Before commencing this programme, learners will do an initial assessment and receive individual guidance regarding their needs and career goals.

The Further Education & Training Centre at Kilmallock Road Campus (formerly St. Enda’s) is a new state-of-the-art site for adult learning in Limerick City. Courses here are provided by VTOS, FAI, Limerick College of Further Education, SOLAS Training Centre as well as Community Education. Learners make great advances in their learning and most will progress into employment or further studies. Many social and cultural events take place throughout the year which adds greatly to the inclusive atmosphere in the building.

Art Craft Design Open Day 2018

The VTOS Art Craft and Design Exhibition and Open day is on Tuesday the 29th May at the Further Education and Training Centre, Kilmallock Road Campus from 10am – 2pm.

Discover and explore the fantastic range of creative works on display.

This is a great opportunity to find out more about the Art Craft Design course or any of the VTOS courses on offer.  You can also take the time to Register your Expression of Interest for the Art Craft Design course.

Office Administration Assessments

Typical work space on Office Administration course

Assessments for the Level 5 Office Administration with Digital Marketing course took place on Monday May 21st 2018 @ 9.30 am.  Thank you to all who took the time to attend the assessment.  Further assessments will take place in the near future.

The assessment will comprise of 3 parts:

  • Typing test
  • Theory test
  • Word Processing test

The assessment will take approximately 2 hours to complete – Register your expression of interest to attend the assessment!

Due to the intense nature of the course and the demands of the Text Production module where a typing speed of 35 wpm minimum is required to pass the module a minimum typing speed is required for the assessment.  This will also impact of the awarding of the major award of Office Administration 5M1997.

The purpose of the theory assessment will establish a baseline of theory knowledge and vocabulary for use across the various modules on the course.

The word processing assessment will ensure beyond beginner competency in word processing skills to ensure ability to complete all assignments across modules (that are expected to be word processed to deadlines).
